AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON
Review by Sarai Lewis
Rating: 4.5 out of 5 apples

Avengers: Age of Ultron is a 2015 superhero movie, the sequel to the 2012 movie The Avengers, based on the Marvel Comics superhero team with the same name.

The movie was written and directed by Joss Whedon, and features a cast that includes Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlet Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner and more.

In Avengers: Age of Ultron, the Avengers must work together with some unlikely allies to defeat Ultron, a robotic enemy bent on human extinction.

The announcement and anticipation of Marvel movies have always been ridiculously exciting to me, so when the first talk of Age of Ultron started, I was ecstatic.

This review is mostly comprised of the highlights and thoughts that I have about this movie, but some theories and opinions as well.

The possible implementation of new characters and the continuation of the Avengers storyline were the two big anticipations for me, and it delivered just that.

How the movie started somewhat disappointed me, mainly because I feel like the special effects were a little bit too fantastic to look believable, along with overuse of CGI. Although that was something that really stood out to me, it wasn't that big of a deal, and it improved as the movie progressed.

I was really happy with how they executed the addition of Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver and The Vision to the story, along with some major storyline additions as well. I feel like they really needed that change to move forward in the Avengers storyline. The special effects used on all three characters were pretty impressive, and I was really satisfied with how they built their characters backstories in such a short amount of time in the movie.

As this is a spoiler-free review I won't get into great detail, but the backstory that was introduced with Ultron and The Vision were really cool and exciting to me. Like I said, It was executed really well, and I think it really added some needed depth for the continuation of the Avengers storyline with upcoming Infinity War Part 1 and 2.

I also thought the character design on Ultron was pretty cool. Although I thought the CGI was a bit janky on this particular character. It seemed to me like they made the scenes with Ultron very simplistic for sake of looking realistic (reminiscent of the original 1984 Terminator). Also, I noticed that a lot of the scenes where Ultron was featured were from his torso up, which was interesting to me because it almost seemed like they didn't want to show his legs (maybe for the sake of hiding questionable animation?).

The fight between The Hulk and Iron Man in the new Hulkbuster suit was a huge highlight for me. It was a really exciting battle, that was straight off the comic book page. There has always been a debate of who would win in a fight between various comic book characters, and this fight definitely sparked some interesting theories and conversation between fans.

In short, I went into this movie with somewhat low expectations, and what was delivered surpassed them by far. Overall, I thought this movie was an amazing and needed addition to the Marvel comic movie franchise, and I was very pleasantly surprised with the outcome.

Thanks for reading and see ya next time!
